Management Student: Workshop on Disaster Management - Dr. Shweta Sharma


Indian Institute of Learning and Advanced Development (INLEAD) in association with Safety Circle organized a First Aid and Life Support workshop for CorporateAdministration and Facility Management & Hospitality Operation Management students on 25th June 2012 at INLEAD Campus in Gurgaon. Workshop was conducted by Dr. Shweta Sharma, a certified instructor from National Safety Council, USA. Dr. Shweta Sharma had trained almost 15,000 people as of now and she had given workshops in some of the well-known organizations like Tata, Mitsibushi Motors, Vodafone, Ericsson, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL and Bina Refinery. Her area of expertise includes Emergency Response and Care, First Aid, Stress Management, Ergonomics and Postures.

The major purpose for such workshops is to prepare the students in case they encounter any natural or industry disaster like fire, flood, chemical spills, stampede or accidents. Workshop basically intends to familiarize the students with meaning, factors, significance, causes and effects of disasters.Workshop was largely about practical situations wherein topics like emergency action plan, basic life support, chocking, shock, sudden illness, bleeding and wound care, burns, serious injuries, poisoning, muscle injury, moving & rescuing the victim and stature drill was covered. It specifically highlights the essentials of disaster preparedness.

Event Management & Public Relation: Student Induction Program - June 2012 EMPR Batch



On 18th June 2012 INLEAD conducted the induction program of June 2012 batch for Events Management and Public Relations students. INLEAD proudly welcomes the batch of future Event Managers and the PR professionals. The Induction program began at 2 PM with Mr. Deepak Sharma giving an introduction about INLEAD and the experienced faculty members that are part of INLEAD. The Induction program provides an invaluable opportunity to the students to interact with each other and with the faculties to gain a perspective about student life at INLEAD. During the interactive session with the faculty member’s students showed an excited approach and were continuously asking their queries about the industry that soon they will be a part of and how the overall course module is structured.

In the coming two weeks students will go under orientation program where they will go through various sessions that will enable them to understand the rules & regulations and the grooming guidelines which are required to be followed by each and every individual. The session will also help them to learn about the different types of etiquette required in the corporate world that would help them to sustain a longer period of time in their particular industry domain. Students will also undergo through various activities which will bring all of them at the same level as they are from diverse backgrounds. These sessions and activities will enable these students to understand various buzzwords like adaptability, team work and time management.

Healthcare Administration: Industry Expert Session - Dr. Shashi Bhushan Gogia


INLEAD conducted an Industry Expert Session on 15th June for its Healthcare Administration students of April’12 batch. The Session was conducted by Dr. Shashi Bhushan Gogia – MS, MBBS (Chairperson of IMIA). Dr. Shashi Bhushan has done his Graduation and post graduation in general surgery from AIIMS , New Delhi. He is the Chairperson of IMIA working group on TeleHealth, Consultant to Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for EHealth and President of SATHI. Dr. Gogia has special interest in Plastic Surgery and Medical Informatics & Telemedicine.


Topic for the session was Insights– Healthcare Information Management Systems. The session was conducted by Dr. Shashi Bhushan Gogia on Hospital Management Information System (HMIS). Dr. Gogia had made the session pretty much informative and had enlightened our students with his I.T. experience in the Healthcare Industry. The session helped students to understand how HMIS can improve knowledge base of healthcare professionals in various sectors for example it can help in maintaining electronic records in the Medical Record Department of the hospital, it helps in simulation techniques as well. He laid stress on the fact that from an administrator's point of view, one should know the basics of IT, Networking and Connectivity. Dr. Bhushan described how India is slowly and gradually moving towards EMR (Electronic Medical Record) and EHR (Electronic Health Record).

Apart from the Medical Informatics, he also threw light on the concept of Telemedicine which is being taken up by doctors as an alternate source, to provide services to the remote areas of the country. According to him, by implementing the current standards in Information Technology and by applying the change management theory we can give a thrust to the Healthcare Information System. He also touched upon some points on cloud computing which is ultimately the future of Information Technology and can play a major role in the Healthcare Industry.

Event Management: Industry Expert Session - Mr. Bryan Furtado


INLEAD conducted an Industry Expert Session on 14th June for its Event Management students of April’12 and October’11 batches. The Session was conducted by Mr. Bryan Furtado, Group Head – Projects, Seventy Event Media Group. Mr. Bryan Furtado has over 10 years of expertise in the events industry, both at the national and international level. He has worked with BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) and has conceptualized the entire Dubai Shopping Festival along with the Dubai Government. In India he has worked along with channel V and for the past five years is continuously heading the organization team for Goa Festival. He has a specialized skill set in conceptualization and handling the creative part of luxury and lifestyle events.

Topic of the session was Career Opportunities in Events Industry. The session helped students to understand that Event Managers can only succeed in their profession if they have an open vision. An Event Manager should not have any kind of limitation in their mind's eye or they might lose the plot. They have to be liberal in their approach and should take NO for an answer. They should be able to handle any crisis well (it can come only through experience) because eventually event managers are called as crisis managers. Mr. Bryan Furtado has mainly handled luxury and lifestyle accounts and has showcased some of his remarkable work to our students which helped them to understand the tremendous scope available in the events industry.

Management Student: Industry Expert Session - Mr. Anil Yadav


INLEAD conducted an Industry Expert Session on 12th June for its Corporate Administration & Facility Management and Hospitality Operations Management students of April’12 and October’11 batches. The Session was conducted by Mr. Anil Yadav, Head – Operations, Real Estate & Facility Management at Eight Management Services. Mr. Anil Yadav has previously worked with some of the reputed Multi National companies like HCL, Philips and Samsung.

Topic of the session was DifferentAspects of Facility Management and Career Opportunities in the FM Industry. The session started with general introduction of FM industry and what are the technical and the soft services aspects of any Facility Management company. Mr. Anil Yadav had made the session very much interactive and had tried to impart the ground realities to the students. His main focus was to showcase the practicalities of the Facility industry and not to put any stress on bookish knowledge. The session helped students to learn about important departments of any organization that a Facility Manger has to handle Vis-à-vis Transport, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping and Security. On being asked by certain female students about their scope in the facility industry; to which he had categorically said that there is no gender biasness in the industry and the only requirement is that the female employees need to give their full commitment towards the job and should not give the importance to their watches as it is not a 9 to 5 job.
    

He also threw light on standards for Waste Management, Utility Management and Space Management. He laid stress on the facts about the immense opportunities that are available in the facility industry and a fresher should have the right kind of attitude to build an illustrious career out of this field. According to Mr. Anil, for a fresher to succeed in the industry he should have a practical and a proactive approach to any situation and should be able to provide some cost effective measures to the organization. He cannot be a soft spoken personality and should have the capability to handle situations tactfully.

Hospital Management: Industry Visit - Pushpanjali Crosslay Hospital


On 8th June 2012 INLEAD conducted an Industry visit to Pushpanjali Crosslay Hospital for its Healthcare Administration students. The visit was intended to give a practical and theoretical exposure of the Blood Bank Services in the hospitals. Dr Anupam Chabbra, HOD of the Blood Bank department at Pushpanjali Crosslay Hospital had shared his expertise with the students and gave a detailed tour to the students. The industry exposure helped students to get a clear idea of the functioning of the department, equipment required, staffing pattern, planning considerations & the role of a manager in the blood bank. 


Pushpanjali Crosslay Hospital is located in Vaishali, Sector 1 – Ghaziabad. It is a tertiary care facility which has been designed to serve the medical needs of the nation and beyond. Management Student: LEAD Activity - Golden Gate


In INLEAD Leadership, Education and Abilities Development or LEAD certification is awarded to students to bridge the gap between campus life and corporate life. This certification basically helps a student to build up on current personality, communication skills, grooming standards and developing the right attitude towards leading and working in a team.



The LEAD module is planned for all the programs which are offered at INLEAD and under this module several activities are held at regular intervals. On June 1st 2012 INLEAD conducted a LEAD activity Golden Gate for the April 2012 batch.  The purpose of such activities is that students from different programs can all come under one roof for few hours and along with the enjoyment can also gain some important learning’s from the activity. In Golden Gate activity participants have to use scrap and other resources to form a bridge. The bridge was then analyzed on three parameters strength, length and height.
The activity was started by dividing the participants in teams. Each team had a time limit of 45 minutes in which they had to use scrap and other resources to the best of their imagination and made a bridge that can be tested on strength, length and height.

At the end of the activity our faculty Ms. Priya Mehta who had meticulously designed this activity said “activity was full of energy & enthusiasm which helped participants to focus on collaboration & Team Work while having fun. It also highlighted the importance of planning and showcased creative skills during the performance. In this activity participants were able to understand the importance of Time Management and how to make best use of Scrap or in other words resource planning.”
